Dear readers,
I am in the middle of helping my mother move across the state, so I have not had a chance to write a post about the film I choose as my favorite this year. But I will send it later this week!
For now, I wanted to send the video of our great conversation on Saturday about Chaplin and Marx. I have seen Modern Times so many times, but I still learned so many new things from our conversation! I feel as if this is a marker of a truly great work of art (and a great discussion group!). If you could not attend but would like to watch, you can do so here:
The next film that we will be discussing as a class is Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope. The post on this film will be sent on March 11.
CONTEST ALERT!
I am getting close to 70 paid subscribers. I will send a signed copy of my book to the 70th paying subscriber! So if you have a free subscription, this is a great time to upgrade!
"From Douglas Coupland to C. S. Lewis, from Flannery O'Connor to Toni Morrison, McCampbell paints a landscape of mystery, hope, and splendor for our imagination to be fed and to be nurtured toward the New Creation." --Makoto Fujimura, artist and author of Art+Faith: A Theology of Making
For those in Chattanooga: I will be speaking on a panel at the University of TN, Chattanooga on Tuesday, March 5th, about a short story collection from Nigerian author Kesha Ajose-Fisher. The panel is from 5:30-7:30 pm.
That’s all, folks!
Thanks for reading.
Mary
Thank you! It was wonderful to listen in on this conversation! And such a treat to meet Victoria Jones (are you here on Substack as well?) We love her work at Art and Theology and benefit so much from it! https://artandtheology.org/
We were watching Paddington 2 and found a Modern Times reference. You can see it at the 15 minute mark in this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rRZ6NOerS4&ab_channel=Paddington
